I have some difficulties translating “Board” and “World”. “Brett” and “Welt” don’t sound quite right in German. “Brett” refers to a wooden board, while “World” is usually understood as the planet. We do say “unsere kleine Welt” (our little world) or “unsere Welt” (our world), but that refers more to a personal environment.
“Welt” might actually be acceptable in German, but for “Board” I tend to prefer “Layout” — we are indeed avid users of Denglisch 
What about “Board” and “World” in other languages?
I asked ChatGPT about this, since as an LLM it should have a good overview of common usage. It suggested also keeping “World” as-is in German and translating “Board” as “Layout”. Other meanings for World could be “Projekt” or “Anlage” (the short world for the complete model railroad in German)

Hi,
Board, is indeed a bit vague, other English alternative would be:
I choose board a long time ago to keep it generic and be able to use board for other things in the future as well, like e.g. building a control panel using all kind of controls. Just an idea back then. So if there is a better term for it, I’m open to change it. (English is not my first language.)
I choose world because I found project a bit dull, we’re modelers we’re building our own miniature world

Yes! I always say ‘I’m building my world the way I like it.’ But ‘Welt’ doesn’t sound quite right in German for Traintastic. I would just leave it as is. I’ll think about it overnight. ‘Board’ is okay in English, but the translation to ‘Brett’ is very bad. In Denglish the word ‘Layout’ has a broader scope as in English.
What have you choosen for this two words in Dutch?

I think switchboard is more akin to control-panel and not necessarily reflective of what we intend.
Layout & section feels more appropriate, where layout could be defined as “the whole thing”, made up of sections.
( i think the Americans also classify that way, but it feels fitting to me )
Personal opinion: more natural than board and world but ultimately of limited consequence.
Schematic has other connotations which makes it a less obvious choice.

World could be modellbahn-anlage or MoBa-Anlage.
I’m slowly moving through the danish translation, but I have a question:
Should I translate variables like %command_station% ?
No, they are placeholders. It will be replaced by the command station name when used.
This evening I’ll add Danish to the software an add the (partial) translation, so we can have a look

the term “Platte” (board/plate) is not widely accepted among model railroaders in Germany. Rocrail uses Track Panel in English, in German “Gleisplan”. JMRI has PanelPro with four different types: Panel (Gleisbild), Control Panel (Kontrolltafel), Layout (Gleisstellbild) and Switchboard (Schaltpult).
As Reinder mentioned, Board should be all of them. In German it could be “Stellwerk”, this is the short form for the English signal cabin or signal box. There is a software named “ModellStellwerk” Modellstellwerk
I find the term “Stellwerk” appropriate as translation for “Board” because it includes the track control panel and other switchboards. I think, every user would know, what it means.
I think, the best German translation for “World” would be “Anlage”.

I see I’ve misunderstood the intention behind the word board. I think I’ll go with the Danish translation of Gleisplan for the word Board.
